The work of the GITEWS project for establishing a Tsunami Early Warning System in the Indian Ocean is performed in close cooperation with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, which coordinates the various contributions in this region. Coordination takes place in various working groups and at regular meetings.
In addition to the collaboration with Indonesian partners, close contacts already exist with organisations in Australia, Kenya, Yemen, Madagascar, Maldives, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Tanzania. The cooperation with further Indian Ocean rim countries is in preparation and is aimed at, respectively.
